MODERATE: optimising building energy with open data solutions
The MODERATE project, funded by the European Union through Horizon Europe, aims to innovate the building industry by developing a marketplace platform that enhances the availability and interoperability of datasets in the sector, through open data and open-source solutions. By innovating data collection, synthesis, and data-driven services, MODERATE aims to improve building system management, building asset optimisation, and informed decision-making, with the ultimate goal of reducing carbon emissions and mitigating climate change in the building sector.
The article "MODERATE: Marketable Open Data Solutions for Building Energy Optimisation" published on REHVA Journal focuses on two aspects of the project. First, the project employs data synthesis techniques to anonymise sensitive data while retaining its value for analysing building performance. This approach ensures secure data sharing and compliance with data protection regulations. By combining multiple datasets within the building sector, the platform can generate aggregated results. Second, the platform offers ten data-driven services that transform raw data into actionable knowledge. These services allow users to monitor building performance, optimise energy systems, and assess building efficiency.
