COST Action 21103 – Implementation of Circular Economy in the Built Environment (CircularB)

BUILD UP is hosting the fourth webinar, part of a series of six webinars organised with the COST Action project on ‘Stakeholder Webinar Series – Building Design Teams & Building Users, Facility Managers, and Owners’. The upcoming webinar will focus on Building Design Teams & Building Users, Facility Managers, and Owners.

The implementation of circular design principles in buildings reflects an approach that encompasses the full life cycle of construction. Circular design enhances the adaptability of buildings and promotes the disassembly and reuse of construction materials after they have fulfilled their intended lifespan. Gunita Kuļikovska-Ķiesnere will highlight key decisions that are vital for ensuring the success of circular design at the initial stage of the process, as well as the challenges that accompany them.

Ricardo Sá will provide insight into energy efficiency of sustainable and circular buildings. Ricardo Sá is the director of Edificios Saudáveis, a company specialized in green rating systems, especially LEED certification and focused on promoting buildings’ overall sustainability since 1996. Edificios Saudáveis has been actively involved in a wide array of projects in both Europe and Brazil, contributing significantly to the enhancement of indoor environmental quality. The company has successfully reduced energy consumption and costs across over 4 million square meters of various types of buildings, including shopping centers, retail outlets, hotels, casinos, health clubs, office buildings, and industrial buildings.

Finally, Ivan Krešimir Kriste will present Valamar Amicor Green Resort, the first family resort on the Croatian Adriatic built according to principles of sustainable construction and designed to exist in harmony with nature. Timber was employed in the construction of state-of-the-art villas, while the interior design incorporated natural and recycled materials sourced locally. The newly constructed accommodation units utilized prefabricated construction techniques, which enhance energy efficiency, accelerate the building process, establish controlled production environments, and facilitate the disassembly of components for potential future reuse.
