The production and use of energy accounts for over 75% of the EU's greenhouse gas emissions, making the decarbonisation of the energy system crucial to achieving the 2030 and 2050 climate targets of the EU Green Deal. Cities play a key role in these efforts, especially in Europe where 74% of the population lives in urban areas. They link local initiatives to broader national and international climate commitments and contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation.

While large cities have been proactive in responding to EU climate policies, smaller and medium-sized cities often struggle to implement and sustain their Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs). The AT LAST project, an EU-funded initiative, addresses this gap by helping smaller cities to develop, finance and implement their Sustainable Energy Climate Action Plans (SECAPs).

The AT LAST project will mark its midterm event on 10 February 2025, with an online meeting to discuss key issues in supporting European cities to achieve their climate goals. This gathering will address critical challenges and opportunities, with a particular focus on the role of Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) in making European cities more sustainable and livable through a panel discussion.

The event aims to explore this key topic of discussion by bringing in expert panelists, gather the project community and engage external relevant stakeholders to share the latest insights, the main achievements of the project so far and pave the way for the second half of the project life.
