The City of London Corporation has approved the 'Planning for Sustainability Supplementary Planning Document' (SPD) to promote sustainable urban development in the Square Mile.

Aiming for net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, the SPD focuses on five key areas: retrofit and reuse, greenhouse gas reduction, circular economy, climate resilience, and urban greening

Prioritising the reuse of existing buildings, the SPD introduces benchmarks for embodied carbon and energy efficiency, particularly for office spaces. It also emphasises circular economy practices, climate resilience, and biodiversity.

This initiative positions the City as a global leader in sustainable development while balancing economic competitiveness.
