The impact of Fit-for-55 on heat pumps
The European Union aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels. To outline the pathway toward achieving this goal, the EU has released the 'Fit for 55' package. This comprehensive package addresses renewables, energy efficiency, building energy performance, energy taxation, and carbon trading.
Heat pumps play a crucial role in meeting these ambitious targets and have been recognised by the Commission as a vital clean energy technology for decarbonising heating and cooling systems. By replacing polluting fossil fuel heating with clean, renewable energy sources, and by operating three to five times more efficiently than gas boilers, heat pumps make a significant contribution to energy savings and climate change mitigation efforts.
