Mapping the future: Strategies for enhancing urban sustainability in central European cities

The GreenScape CE Visual Mapping Platform (GVMP) was developed as part of the GreenScape CE project, an initiative aimed at transforming cities into more sustainable and liveable environments by creating a climate-proof landscape through renaturing urban areas in Central Europe.

The GVMP aims to provide an overview of the green and blue infrastructure in the metropolitan areas of Milan (Italy), Ptuj (Slovenia), Szeged (Hungary), Warsaw (Poland) and Zagreb (Croatia). The GreenScape CE Visual Mapping Platform and its interactive maps are designed to connect individual nature-based solutions (NbS) into a coherent network, facilitating sustainable urban planning and supporting local governments and urban planners in enhancing climate resilience.

The platform offers three tools: accessibility, NbS analysis, and connectivity. Its geoprocessing simulation capabilities help assess population accessibility to green infrastructure, evaluate NbS strategies, and measure green space connectivity across the five pilot cities, ensuring more effective urban sustainability planning.

Additionally, the GVMP tool provides a scalable framework that other Central European cities can adopt, offering resources to integrate nature-based solutions into their urban planning processes and ensuring transferability across different contexts.
