The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) launched the EU Building Policy Tracker, an interactive online tool to assess progress and identify gaps in the EU’s efforts to decarbonise buildings by 2050.

The highlights key policy advancements, such as the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), but reveals gaps in long-term renovation targets, circularity, and financing for sustainable building practices. It calls for clearer goals, binding circularity targets, and stronger financial mechanisms.

The tracker emphasises the urgency of long-term planning to meet climate neutrality goals, given that buildings account for 40% of Europe’s energy demand, with 80% from fossil fuels.
