CITYSOLAR Project: Transparent Photovoltaics (TPV) for sustainable transformation of the energy sector in large cities
In the CITYSOLAR project, a new breakthrough concept for TPV will be developed by exploiting the combined use of emerging technologies, namely multi-junction solar modules developed from near-ultraviolet perovskite and near-infrared organic solar cells. Using advanced concepts within light management such as photonic crystals, nanophotonics and photon recycling and advanced module integration schemes, CITYSOLAR will radically change performance limits for TPV by significantly reducing losses related to light absorption and scale-up from individual solar cells to multi-junction modules.

The architecture of this multi-functional building strengthens the conditions for a strong inside-outside relationship, enforces human-nature ties and environmental awareness. Dry wood construction and bio-based materials have been used to reduce the carbon footprint. It also uses renewable energy, such as solar photovoltaics, wood boilers and heat pumps.

The 27 EU Ministers of Energy agree on a general approach for the revision of the EPBD
A general approach has been finally agreed for the revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). Some ambitious targets have been set, such as new buildings being zero-emission by 2030 and existing residential buildings being zero-emission by 2050 following a national trajectory for minimum energy performance standards (MEPS).
