The EU Affordable Housing Initiative addresses Europe’s housing crisis by supporting 35 lighthouse districts to become inclusive, energy-efficient, and affordable. Coordinated by Housing Europe and partners, it offers financial guidance, mentorship, and capacity-building to reduce energy poverty, promote inclusion, and lower emissions

Part of the first European Affordable Housing Plan, it responds to soaring housing costs, with property prices up 50% since 2010.

Building on the EU’s Renovation Wave, Phase I benefited 22 districts through tailored training and financial tools. Successful examples include projects in Spain, Sweden, Estonia, and Denmark.

The initiative supports climate neutrality by 2050.
