Energy-efficiency in buildings, Building Information Modelling
Build Up Skills (BUS) initiative in CZ and SK - Rebooting the National qualification platforms and Roadmaps towards implementation of nearly Zero Energy Buildings and support for Renovation Wave
Double Decker focused on enhancing the energy performance of the building stock by tackling both the technical and digital skills gaps within the construction workforce. The initiative successfully developed integrated training approaches that combined energy efficiency principles with practical digital tools. As a valuable asset for professionals aiming to upskill today, the project provides accessible training frameworks and methodologies that bridge the divide between theoretical sustainability and practical, on-site execution.
Key usable outputs and tools:
- CraftEdu central qualifications database platform: A newly expanded, unified online upskilling hub serving both the Czech and Slovak construction markets. The database hosts comprehensive project technical outputs, training methodologies, and course structures focused on Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (nZEBs).
- Double Decker National Qualification Platforms: Twin national expert networks established in Czechia (145 organisations) and Slovakia (200 organisations). Backed by government ministries and trade associations, they function as permanent steering platforms to align regional education infrastructure with 2030 climate goals.
- Final Czech and Slovak national roadmaps: Comprehensive, cross-country strategic master plans endorsed by 75 formal organisations to provide tailored interventions up to 2030. The Czech Roadmap concentrates heavily on institutional capacity building and public procurement, while the Slovak lines prioritise a structural overhaul of VET school curricula and material-technical provisioning.
- Cross-Craft curriculum overhaul blueprints: Standardised educational guidelines designed to convert traditional study directions into cross-cutting paths. They map out the rapid integration of advanced techniques into vocational and adult training, specifically defining 10 target profiles, including "Building Assembly Technicians", "Robot Operators", "AI Architects", and "Construction Drone Operators".
- AEC Industry 5.0 human-centric skills framework: A unique pedagogical methodology framework designed to upgrade technical professions. It maps out training paths that blend high-tech competencies with socially oriented, data-driven decision-making and problem-solving soft skills.
- Value-for-Money procurement strategy guide: A practical procedural manual for public procurement offices based on national procurement guidelines. It provides tender frameworks and competitive dialogue templates to help contracting authorities enforce mandatory worker competency and energy expert requirements.
