BUS-GoCircular

Stimulate demand for sustainable energy skills with circularity as a driver and multifunctional green use of roofs, façades and interior elements as focus

BUS-GoCircular aimed to overcome the challenges of implementing circular economy practices in the construction sector by developing a comprehensive, cross-craft qualification framework focused entirely on circular skills. The project successfully equipped hundreds of professionals and SMEs with essential green competencies through targeted mentoring and practical, hands-on training programs. The project offers open-access "Train-the-Trainer" materials, practical toolkits, and modular training units specifically designed to help workers integrate circularity into everyday building and renovation projects.

Projects on the same skills
  • Dedicated to stimulate demand for sustainable energy skills in the construction sector

BUSLeague project tackled the demand for an energy-skilled workforce by developing a publicly available cross-craft qualification framework (comprising 98 tasks and 92 learning outcomes), that remains accessible today for shaping new training programs. During its execution, the project successfully upskilled over 5,600 individuals, including retail staff and installers, while securing concrete commitments to integrate energy skills into public procurement. The project provides open access to a vast compilation of tailored curricula, e-tools, and handbooks, which continue to be utilized by partnered training centers across Europe.

  • ESTABLISHING FUTURE-ORIENTED TRAINING AND QUALIFICATION QUALITY STANDARDS FOR FOSTERING A BROAD UPTAKE OF SUSTAINABLE ENERGY SKILLS IN THE EUROPEAN CONSTRUCTION SECTOR

TRAIN4SUSTAIN focused on harmonizing sustainable energy skills across the European construction sector by developing a unified, standardized system to evaluate and compare professionals' qualifications. The initiative successfully established the Competence Quality Standard (CQS) - which was officially validated as a European pre-standard (CEN Workshop Agreement) - providing a clear framework to score the green skills of both blue- and white-collar workers. As a powerful tool for professionals seeking to upskill, the project launched the European Skills Registry and a digital Skills Passport, which function as active matchmaking platforms to help trained experts prove their competencies and connect with new sustainable building projects.

  • BUILD UP Skills Netherlands

BUS-NL focused on accelerating the Dutch building sector's transition towards climate neutrality by updating the national BUILD UP Skills roadmap. The project successfully synchronized the demand for new green competencies with existing educational frameworks, emphasizing digitalization and circularity. As a legacy for professionals today, the project provides an endorsed action plan and strategic insights that directly help training institutes align their upskilling programs with current market needs.

  • BUILD Up Skills for mainstreaming long-term renovation of Romanian building stock

BUS4RoBOOST aimed to significantly increase the number of skilled building professionals in Romania by modernizing its national skills roadmap for 2030. The initiative successfully analyzed the current labor market, highlighting the urgent need for cross-craft training in energy efficiency and renewables. As a practical tool available today, the project delivers a comprehensive strategy and dataset that training centers can directly use to design impactful reskilling courses for local workers.

  • BUILD UP Skills – REbooting the GReek national platform and UPdating the national roadmap

BUS-REGRoUP aimed to accelerate the Clean Energy Transition in Greece by expanding the national skills framework to encompass both blue-collar workers and white-collar professionals. By revitalizing the National Qualifications Platform, the project successfully updated the Country's status quo analysis to integrate critical new competencies in smart buildings, digitalization, and circularity. Today, local training providers and stakeholders can leverage the project's fully updated National Roadmap, which offers a clear action plan and priority measures to effectively reskill the entire building value chain for 2030.

Projects in Bulgaria
  •

INSTRUCT focused on demonstrating the direct link between highly skilled construction workers and the actual energy performance of buildings to boost market demand for qualified professionals. The project developed specialized training programs, established mutual recognition frameworks for energy skills, and promoted the use of digital worker skills passports. As a result, the project successfully upskilled personnel across the entire construction supply chain while providing concrete evidence to stakeholders that investing in trained workers leads to higher quality, energy-efficient building renovations.

  • Rebooting the Bulgarian BUILD UP Skills Platform for Dialogue and Qualification Roadmap

BUILDUPSkillsBG addressed the challenge of delivering ambitious deep energy retrofitting and zero-emission buildings by revitalizing Bulgaria's national qualification framework. Through the active engagement of a relaunched National Platform for Dialogue, the project successfully analyzed current market demands and developed a detailed concept for a continuous professional development system. As a practical legacy for educators and professionals today, the project provides an endorsed National Roadmap and action plan that clearly outlines how to integrate smart, sustainable energy solutions across all levels of construction training.

  • New Skills for Nearly Zero Energy Buildings

NS4NZEB focuses on boosting the number of qualified building professionals capable of delivering nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (nZEB) through specialized training methods. The project is developing and piloting new tailored courses, bridging the gap between theoretical NZEB concepts and practical on-site application. The initiative offers open-access training materials and methodological guidelines specifically designed for integrating NZEB standards into everyday construction practices.

  • Enhancing Market Readiness for nZEB Implementation

nZEB Ready aimed to drive the implementation of nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (nZEB) by directly addressing the market's need for highly qualified professionals and reliable technology solutions. The initiative successfully trained a critical mass of workers, spanning from specialized designers and engineers to on-site installers, while actively engaging public authorities to recognize and demand these advanced energy skills in their projects. As a practical resource for experts seeking to upskill today, the project provides a comprehensive set of ready-to-use training modules and technical guidelines specifically tailored for the design, construction, and certification of high-performance nZEBs.
